Update

In our group meeting we decided to change our whole setting of our film opening. Instead of a shopping mall we decided to film some of it on a deserted street and an empty room for our torture scene. We have begun thinking about where to shoot the opening and have previously filmed in Stanmore. We are hoping to find somewhere local, so it will be easier to film.

Update

Our original idea at the shopping centre doesn’t seem to be working very well, and the test shots we recorded don’t look how we wanted them to turn out. As a group we are not sure whether the shopping centre would be the right place to shoot our whole opening scene. This is also because of how difficult it was to film in a busy shopping centre. It took a while as some people kept getting in our shots.

Thoughts and Progress

I think that our idea for our opening scene is good but to make sure that it actually works we need to work better. At the moment our group isn't working very well I feel, as we haven't had many meetings to discuss our actual plans for further filming.
I think that to improve this we need to plan our sequence together a bit better. This is so we all have a better understanding of what we are doing as a group and individually. Then from here we can start to do the rest of our filming, which will be easier as a group. This is the main issue I think so far, that we need to resolve.
However we have researched how our film opening could be shown, and what would be much more suitable for it. We have also looked at and analysed various AS media coursework to help us with what to do and what not to do in our opening. we analysed similar openings so that we could relate it to our opening when we have finished it. we have also looked as various distributors we could use and what kind of soundtrack would be appropriate for us.
I think the research we have done so far will help us to create a good film opening in the end.

Soundtrack

We have been working on the soundtrack recently, and our inspiration has come from the soundtrack of the movie The Dark Night and we also have a second soundtrack inspiration which is from the movie The Hills have Eyes. These inspirational soundtracks have been chosen by two of the other member of the group, but recently me and one of the people in my group have made a rough soundtrack.
We tried to make sure that it included all the elements we wanted it too, we wanted it to be dark and sinister to try and create the atmosphere for our opening scene and give the audience more of an insight to what genre it may be.
I think it is important to have a soundtrack that flows with the genre of your movie because soundtracks generally set the mood for the audience. So we had to think about what kinda of sounds we put into the soundtrack, and what effect it had on people.

Analysis of DVD cover

I chose this film poster because it links in with our film opening which has revenge as one of our themes. This poster shows the two main characters on the front. They blend into each other, with the first character standing up looking away from the audience. this shows us that he may not know what exactly is going on in the film, he could be the target of the other characters revenge. The other character seems quite different. He is looking straight at the camera and his eyes are quite defined and low, this shows that he may be after revenge and it could be to do with the other male character. The title ans actors names are clearly shown in white bold letters. This is a good DVD cover, and this could be a good inspiration for us.
