Narrative Expectations:
As the credits are playing there is sinister music playing in the background which suggests that this is a thriller/horror film. There are obscured images in the background with the music and credits, you can't really make out what they are. Then as they come into focus it becomes clear that it is two people kissing and you can only see their faces. It continues to move onto another image, it becomes quite fast paced at this stage there is a man in a suit coming up the stairs. This is all in black and white which suggests it is not real, it could be a dream. The man catches the two people in bed, they jump apart in shock and guilt. Then it shows various images but they are going quite fast so you cant tell what is happening. This could make the audience feel uneasy as they don't know what is happening or what could happen. The man in the suit stabs and kills the man who was in the bed, straight away it is a murder which tells us what type of film this is. It could be a crime of passion. The man and woman both say something and then he kills her also. There is bloody water and two dead bodies. then we see an eye of one woman then switches to another woman, who says 'murder'. The setting changes into what seems like an office or some kind of crime department. The first person to be in the camera shot is a male adult, this suggests he is the main character, his name is John and he works there. It is set in the year 2054, which is why the place can't relate to any offices of crime departments we see today, it is a futuristic film.
Shot types:
There are some close up's in the opening sequence, only one where the two characters are kissing. Then there is another of a pair of bloody scissors, which suggests murder. There is then a high angle full body shot of the man in the suit coming up the stairs. Then there is an overhead view of the full situation when the man gets upstairs, this is to show the audience what is happening. There is a long shot when the man in the suit is grabbing the other man, then you see the woman as well. Most of the shots are high angle shots looking down on the entire situation or a particular character. When the man comes into the scene he comes from behind the camera and walks fast in front of it, the camera takes a long shot of him walking so we can see his whole body from the front. this also suggests that he is the main character.
Character types:
We don't know what characters there will be in this film. This is because the opening scene looks like a dream and we don't clearly see faces and various people that we can assume are main or other characters. The only person we know that is the main character is John who we know works with the organization in the film.

Narrative Expectations:
As the credits are playing you hear music in the background that sounds quite cheerful. Then you hear children when it gets to the main scene. Straight away a young teenage girl appears in front of what seem to be a sky background. We can tell that this is the main character of the film but we don't know her name yet. As the camera pulls back you can see a cue of school kids, so straight away we know it is set in a school. In this opening scene it shows the young girl having her school photo taken. It is set in 1987 as it says it in the scene, also the clothes that the kids are wearing look very outdated and old. The main character looks quite nervous and shy to take her picture which can suggest she is not very confident. As the scene goes on the music carries on in the background. She then gets her picture which is not good, the camera moves away to introduce another character who is also a teenager but male. This suggest that he could be her friend, as he greets her he wishes her happy 13th birthday. So far nothing has been going right for Jenna who is the main character, so we hope that everything will change for her on this special day for her.
Shot types:
The first shot is a close up of the main character just before she take her school photo, this is to point out in the beginning that she is the main character. It then slowly pulls back from the close up into a long shot. This is to reveal the setting and the era the the movie is set in. In the beginning there are a lot of close up's showing the expression of the character and who they are. They also use the tracking technique, for example when she is walking down the corridor the camera moves in the direction she is going. But only shows a medium close up of her, not the full length shot. Most of the shots at the beginning flow into each other to the different sets.
Character types:
Jenna, the main character is mostly perceived as a shy un-confident person, because of this we can guess that she is not the most popular girl in school. By the way she dresses and acts tells us that she is quite naive and doesn't have that many friends.
